What's new
The latest changes to the web app, the Chrome extension and this help center.
The latest changes, newest first. The same list is in the app: ? at the bottom of the Sidebar → What’s new.
November 9, 2026
- Dropping a path from VS Code — a drag that carries only a file path (not the file) is explained instead of being typed into your note: choose the same file in the picker and it is imported, or insert the path as text (Import notes).
- Songbook card: chords above the lyrics — write
[C] wordin a ```songbook block (or ask the AI chat for guitar chords) and get a songbook: chord shapes, transpose, capo, chords on/off, text size, 2 columns, copy as text or ChordPro. A note that already holds a song with chords offers Make a songbook card (Widgets: cards in your notes). - Clearer mode and account — when a note cannot open in your chosen mode, a line at the top of the note says why (“Opened in Split (your mode is Rich) …”). Share, delete and import dialogs now show which account they act on. In Rich, typing
/on a new line after Enter opens the slash menu. - Rich shows line breaks like Read — a single Enter is now a visible new line in Rich too (same “Strict CommonMark line breaks” setting). Enter = new line, Enter twice = blank line, Shift+Enter = new paragraph.
- Your mode stays put, and your account is always visible — switching between notes no longer changes Write / Split / Read / Rich; it stays until you change it (remembered on this device). The sidebar footer now shows who is signed in (picture + name); click it for Settings, your IDUnify account and Sign out.
- AI and ⌘K tools now work in Rich — select text and press ⌘J (Fix spelling, Translate …) or use the ⌘K tools; the change appears as a bar with Accept / Reject / Try again, and ⌘Z undoes it in one step (Writing in Markdown).
- Rich mode: pictures, slash menu, link picker — paste or drop a picture (encrypted on your device), type
/for headings, tables, images and cards, type[[to pick a note to link. Headings and quotes now match Read in all nine themes (Writing in Markdown). - Rich mode draws your cards — recipe, checklist, split, convert, chart and trade cards now appear as real cards inside the note in Rich: scale a recipe, tick items, press Keep N servings, all written back as in Read. ‹/› Edit text opens the Markdown behind a card (Writing in Markdown).
- Rich mode now shows callouts and wiki links —
> [!NOTE]callouts are drawn as coloured boxes and[[wiki links]]are links you can click to open the note; type[[Note]]to make one. Both are saved back exactly as written, so imported Obsidian notes and book Contents notes now open in Rich instead of Split (Writing in Markdown).
November 8, 2026
- Rich mode (beta) — edit your note as a formatted page. Turn it on in Settings → Markdown, then press Rich or ⌘⌥ECtrlAltE. Opening a note never changes it; only what you edit is saved. Notes with callouts or
[[wiki links]]still open in Split with a reason. See Writing in Markdown.
November 7, 2026
- Import EPUB books — drop an
.epub(DRM-free) and each book becomes a notebook: a note per chapter in reading order, titled from the book’s contents, plus a Contents note with links, the cover and the pictures. Books with DRM are skipped with a clear message (Import notes).
November 6, 2026
- Import from Google Keep, Day One, Word and web pages — a Google Keep Takeout .zip, a Day One JSON export, Word .docx files and saved .html pages import the same way: Settings → Import, ⌘K, or drag them onto the window. Checklists, labels, pinned notes, photos, headings, lists and tables are converted. The guide also explains how to bring in Apple Notes and Simplenote (Import notes).
November 5, 2026
- Bear, Joplin, Logseq and Evernote import — import a Bear TextBundle / TextPack, a Joplin .jex or Markdown export, a Logseq graph folder, or Evernote .enex files the same way as before: Settings → Import, ⌘K, or drag them onto the window. Each one is detected, shown in a preview, and converted (tags, checkboxes, pictures, links, notebooks). Step-by-step export instructions for every app are in the guide (Import notes).
November 4, 2026
- Import a folder, Obsidian vault or Notion export — Settings → Import a folder or .zip…, ⌘K, or drag a folder or .zip onto the window. A preview shows what will be imported, folders become notebooks, images are encrypted,
[[wiki links]]keep working, Notion ids are removed and its links and databases are converted. Importing twice is safe (Import notes). - Import Markdown files — bring in
.md,.markdownor.txtfiles: Settings → Import Markdown files…, ⌘KCtrlK → Import Markdown files…, or just drag files onto the window. Each file becomes a note, titled from its front matter, first heading or file name. Drop a file onto an open note and choose to insert it there or import it as a new note (Import notes).
November 2, 2026
- Showcase page — see Sidekick Note at work on one page: widgets, the trade journal, the AI chat, the command palette and more, with live example notes you can open (sidekicknote.com/showcase). All figures on it are sample data.
- Numbers follow the card's language — amounts, percentages and decimals on trade, split, convert and chart cards use the card's language:
58,40 €in Spanish,₹1,00,000.00in Hindi,¥700and₩12,500(no decimals) in Japanese and Korean,฿700.00in Thai. English looks exactly as before. What you wrote in the note is never changed; the plain fallback, exports and a chart's copied data keep dots and plain numbers (Widgets: cards in your notes). - Ask the AI in more languages — ask for a recipe, checklist, bill split, unit conversion, chart or trade journal in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hindi or Spanish (English and Thai already worked) and the AI answers with the right card. Local kitchen words such as 大さじ, 큰술, cucharada and चम्मच, and timers like 分, 분, minutos and मिनट, are recognised.
- Sample data for trade cards — add
data=sampleto a trade card and it draws made-up candles that fit your entry, stop, target and exit, with a Sample data badge and no market-data request. Good for demos and teaching. The AI never adds it, and published pages draw the same sample chart. - Trade journal: smaller improvements — time zones written as
UTC+7or+07:00work; a card with a missing date tells you what to add; if the chart cannot draw, the figures stay and the card says why. Tags written with joiner characters (some Hindi words) are no longer cut short. - Cards speak your language — the words on every card (P&L, Held, Fees, Stop, Target, Copy as text, hints and messages) now follow the note: English, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hindi or Spanish. Set it with
lang=thon a block orlang: thin the note's front matter, or let it follow the script of the note or your browser. Published pages use the note's language (Widgets: cards in your notes). Published trade cards with Sample data now draw the sample chart too; real-data trades stay figures only. - Trade journal card — log a stock or crypto trade in a few lines, or tell the AI chat (“Bought 100 NVDA @ 142.50 at 10:32, stop 140, exit 146 at 11:15”), and get a card with P&L, R-multiple, hold time and a candlestick chart with your entry, stop, target and exit marked (Widgets: cards in your notes). Prices come from our market-data service (some are delayed 15 minutes, and the card says so); if it is unavailable you can add your own free Alpaca key, kept on this device only. Only the symbol and the time window are sent to get prices, never your note. Insert one with ⌘KCtrlK → Insert trade card.
November 1, 2026
- Annotate pictures — point at a picture in a note and press ✏ Annotate (or ⌘KCtrlK → Annotate image…): pen, highlighter, arrows, shapes, text, numbered badges, blur, crop and rotate. Done replaces the picture, Save as copy adds one below; your original is kept and ↩ Revert to original brings it back. Also in the Chrome extension’s Side panel (Images).
- Annotate: resize, rotate and style — every mark has handles (drag to resize, turn with the round handle, a text’s corners change its font size) and a Properties bar (thickness, fill, size, opacity, rotation, duplicate, order). Arrows get six heads, their own head size, dashed or dotted lines and a bend; new Line and Callout tools, rounded rectangles and badge shapes (Images).
- Templates in the Chrome extension — the Side panel gets a 📄 Templates menu: new note from a template, save a note as a template, card presets, template links and packs (Templates). Not published to the Chrome Web Store yet.
- Templates — press ⌘K → New note from template and start from a ready note: daily note, meeting, bug report, README, trip plan, meal plan, weekly review or project, in English or Thai, with working cards inside (Templates). Save any note as your own template (⌘K → Save note as template), or ask the AI to make one; yours appear in the picker under Yours. Share and move templates: Copy template link for this note (the template travels in the link, nothing is stored on our server) and Export / Import templates & presets as one file; plus a Template gallery. Card presets: ready-filled cards (a beach packing list, a dinner split, a weekly weight chart) in ⌘K → Insert card preset…, and ☆ Save as preset on any card to keep your own.
- More cards — a checklist with saved ticks, a bill splitter, a unit converter and a chart; and recipe cards now have a Metric / US switch, shopping ticks, step timers and a total time (Widgets: cards in your notes). Insert any of them with ⌘KCtrlK → Insert … card, or ask the AI chat.
- Widgets: recipe cards — a recipe in your note becomes a card you can scale: change the servings from 1 to 100 and every amount follows. Ask the AI chat for a recipe and it comes as a card (Insert card only, Replace card in note). Still plain Markdown; works in published links, exports and print. Insert one with ⌘KCtrlK → Insert recipe card (Widgets: cards in your notes).
- Publish links — share a note as a web page at my.sidekicknote.com with a link preview in chats; snapshot or live, password, expiry, custom address, search engines on or off, and Duplicate to my Sidekick. The end-to-end Private link is still there (Sharing a note).
- Smart link previews — the card shows your cover, your first big image, or a smart card drawn from your code, diagram, table or checklist (Sharing a note).
- Shared view in the Sidebar — all your links with views, Update now and Turn off (Sharing a note).
- Note icon and cover — an emoji and a cover from the new Cover gallery (Notes & notebooks).
October 31, 2026
- Help center + in-app help — this site; ? Help menu in the app, a 5-step guided tour, the keyboard shortcuts overlay (⌘/Ctrl/) and “?” links in Settings and the AI chat.
- The Sidebar and Editor follow your click — picking a View, Notebook or tag unfolds a folded Note list and opens its first note, or shows “No notes in … yet” with + New note (Notes & notebooks).
- Protected by default, private when you need it — no passphrase for everyday notes; private notebooks with their own passphrase and recovery code (Protection & private notebooks).
- Auto-lock for private notebooks after 30 minutes by default.
- AI chat in the Right panel with Context chips, @notes, / actions, history and a model picker (AI: menu, chat and privacy).
- Chrome extension — images, AI chat with 🌐 This page, ⌘JCtrlJ, notebooks, trash and share links in the Side panel (Chrome extension).
- Encrypted share links (Sharing a note) and encrypted images (Images).
- Professional Markdown — Write · Split · Read per note, math, diagrams, callouts, YAML front matter, find and replace (Writing in Markdown).
October 29, 2026
